WISDOM TEETH REMOVAL - BRONX, NY

Painful 3rd Molars Coming In?

Wisdom Teeth Removal from the Experts

Wisdom teeth, sometimes called 3rd molars, typically start to emerge in our teens and are fully in by the age of 21. But that’s not always the case. Wisdom teeth may not break through the gums at all or may just come partially through. These are considered impacted wisdom teeth. The reason these teeth are prone to problems is because they’re the last ones to grow in. As a result, they may put pressure against healthy existing teeth and throw them out of alignment. The crowding they can cause also makes them hard to clean and vulnerable to decay. Wisdom teeth removal in Bronx, NY is the only reliable relief. With a team of three board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeons, led by Dr. Marlon Moore, we’re the area’s premier practice for this important surgical procedure. After dental school, our team completed years of advanced specialty training in hospital-based residency programs that prepared us to complete 3rd molar extractions and more with excellence. We then became board-certified, which is your assurance that we maintain the highest standards and are knowledgeable in all the newest techniques and treatments. One of our oral surgeons is also a medical doctor qualified to treat medically compromised patients and complex cases. You won’t find a team better trained or prepared for wisdom teeth removal!

Specialized Extraction, Smooth Recovery

We’ve performed 2,800+ extractions and dealt with 1,600 impactions. But we want you to understand that the wisdom tooth extraction process isn’t the same as most tooth extractions. While those involve pulling your teeth out with forceps, wisdom teeth removal is a more complex surgical procedure best left to qualified oral surgeons. During the procedure, which lasts about an hour, we may open your gums and divide your tooth into sections for removal. Though that may sound uncomfortable, we’re licensed to administer anesthesia options including general anesthesia and IV sedation, both of which put you in a pain-free, sleep-like state. You won’t even be aware of your treatment.

Unlike other teeth, wisdom teeth don’t need to be replaced, so once you have them removed you shouldn’t require additional treatments. To make sure your recovery goes smoothly, however, there are a few things that you can do to help that process. For a time, you shouldn’t rinse the area or drink anything through a straw. This is because your empty tooth sockets will naturally develop blood clots during healing. If these don’t form or become dislodged the underlying nerves and bone will be left exposed—a painful complication known as dry socket. You can prevent dry socket by strictly following all of our post-extraction instructions. If you do, you should never have to worry about other wisdom teeth-related issues for the rest of your life!
